FFL Transfer Policy

All serialized firearms purchased from Reactive Gunworks must be shipped to a licensed Federal Firearms License (FFL) dealer for transfer. This is federal law — no exceptions. Here's how the process works:

How to Buy a Firearm Online

  1. Place your order. During checkout, use our FFL dealer locator to select a licensed dealer near you. This is where your firearm will be shipped.
  2. We verify the FFL. We obtain and confirm validity of the receiving dealer's firearm license before shipping. If there's an issue with the FFL, we'll contact you for an alternate dealer to ship to.
  3. We ship to your dealer. Your firearm ships directly to the FFL dealer you selected. You'll receive tracking information by email.
  4. Complete your transfer. Your dealer will contact you when the firearm is ready for you. You'll go to their location, fill out necessary paperwork (ATF Form 4473, background check, any other relevant steps for your jurisdiction) and take possession of your firearm.

Choosing Your FFL Dealer

You can select any licensed FFL dealer in the United States. You are responsible for confirming your selected FFL dealer will accept the items and legally transfer to you. We recommend confirming:

  • They accept firearms and parts from online retailers and are able and willing to transfer to you.
  • Their transfer fee (this is a fee your dealer charges you — it varies and is not set or collected by Reactive Gunworks)
  • For NFA items: that the dealer holds the appropriate SOT (Special Occupational Tax) license to receive and transfer NFA/Class III items

If your preferred dealer is not listed in our locator, you can have them email a copy of their FFL to support@reactivegunworks.com and you'll enter their address at checkout after clicking the checkbox that says "Can't find your preferred local FFL? Check this box and input your FFL's shipping address below."

Sending Your FFL in Advance

To speed up processing, your receiving dealer can send a copy of their FFL license (and SOT, if applicable) to support@reactivegunworks.com before or at the time of your order. Include your order number in the subject line if placed already.

Transfer Fees

Your local FFL dealer will usually charge their own transfer fee when you pick up your firearm. Transfer fees typically range from $15 to $75+ depending on the dealer. We have no control over what a dealer charges and are not responsible for their fees.

Inspection Before Transfer

You must fully inspect your firearm at your dealer before completing the Form 4473 paperwork. Once the Form 4473 is signed and the transfer is complete, the firearm is legally yours and the sale is final — no exceptions. You have up to 3 calendar days from delivery to your FFL to inspect and report any issues. After that window closes, or after transfer (whichever comes first), no returns are accepted. See our Returns & Refunds Policy for details.

Background Check Denials

If your NICS background check is denied or delayed indefinitely, contact us at support@reactivegunworks.com. The firearm will need to be returned to us by the FFL dealer. Return shipping is the customer's responsibility, and standard restocking fees apply.

Refused or Unclaimed Transfers

If a firearm is refused by the receiving FFL dealer or is not picked up within 30 days of delivery, we will arrange for the item to be returned to us. Return shipping costs and applicable restocking fees will be deducted from any refund.

Restricted States

Customers in states or municipalities with specific firearms restrictions (including but not limited to California, New York, Hawaii, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Jersey, Washington D.C., and the City of Chicago) are required to follow all additional steps and restrictions and ensure the firearm is legal in their jurisdiction before we can ship.

It is your responsibility to know and comply with all applicable laws prior to placing your order with Reactive. We reserve the right to cancel orders that would place the customer in violation of their state or local laws and subject refunds to a restocking fee starting at 5%.

Local Pickup of Online Reactive Orders

If you're local to Fruitland, Idaho, you can select Reactive Gunworks as your FFL dealer during checkout and pick up your firearm directly from us at no shipping cost. All standard transfer paperwork (Form 4473, NICS check) is completed at the time of pickup.

Online Transfers from Other Retailers for Pickup at Reactive

Due to the nature of our appointment only store and our limited staff, we generally do not handle outside FFL transfers of firearms purchased elsewhere online. If you are already picking up an online reactivegunworks.com firearm order from us and want to coordinate picking up an additional outside transfer in the same visit/transaction, just give us a heads up when you schedule your main Reactive pickup appointment. If you for some reason have a specific need to pick up an outside firearm transfer from us, reach out and we'll see how we can help.
