NFA / Class III Policy

Purchasing NFA items — suppressors, short-barreled rifles (SBRs), short-barreled shotguns (SBSs), and other items regulated under the National Firearms Act — involves a federal approval process that takes time and has specific rules. This page explains exactly what to expect when you buy an NFA item from Reactive Gunworks.

The Process

  1. Place your order. Add your NFA item to your cart and choose a receiving FFL dealer during checkout. Your dealer must hold a valid SOT (Special Occupational Tax) license — not all FFL dealers are authorized to receive and transfer NFA items. It is your responsibility to confirm this before placing your order.
  2. Dealer-to-dealer transfer. NFA items require ATF approval for the dealer-to-dealer transfer before we can ship. This typically takes 7–10 business days.
  3. Form 4 submission. Once your dealer receives the item, they will help you submit ATF Form 4 (Application for Tax Paid Transfer — prior to 2026 there was a $200 tax stamp fee, this is no longer). If purchasing as a trust, all responsible persons must submit the required documentation.
  4. Wait for approval. ATF Form 4 processing times vary. Your dealer can advise on what recent completion times have been for their submissions.
  5. Pick up your item. Once the Form 4 is approved and the tax stamp is received, your dealer will contact you. You'll complete any required paperwork and take possession.

NFA Refund Policy

Once the ATF Form 4 process has been initiated, we cannot offer a full refund on NFA items. The refund terms depend on the outcome:

If your Form 4 application is denied by the ATF:

  • You will receive your choice of either 90% of the item's purchase price as store credit, or a 75% direct refund to your original payment method.

If you cancel before Form 4 submission: Standard firearm cancellation terms apply — see our Returns & Refunds Policy.

Pickup Deadline

Once your tax stamp is approved, you must pick up your NFA item from the receiving FFL dealer within 60 days of notification. NFA items not picked up within this period will be considered abandoned and will become the property of Reactive Gunworks. No refund will be issued for abandoned items.

If you need an extension due to extenuating circumstances, contact us at support@reactivegunworks.com before the 60-day window expires.

SOT Dealer Requirement

Not every FFL dealer is licensed to handle NFA/Class III items. Your receiving dealer must hold the appropriate Special Occupational Tax (SOT) classification. If you select a dealer who cannot legally receive NFA items, your order will be delayed until an appropriate dealer is identified. We are not responsible for delays caused by selecting an ineligible dealer.

If you are unsure whether your preferred dealer handles NFA transfers, contact them directly before placing your order.

Damaged NFA Items

If an NFA item is damaged during shipping, contact us immediately at support@reactivegunworks.com with photos. Damaged items are the only exception to the NFA refund restrictions — we will replace or fully refund a damaged NFA item.
